The Food & Drink Innovation Network – June 2009
We are told that award winning* Hopper is the very first of its kind – a ‘soft-brew’. Its authentic beer ingredients, such as hops and malt, are complemented by a tang of fruit for a unique adult taste. Just like beer it has a satisfying frothy head when poured but, unlike beer, contains health-promoting ingredients, is free of alcohol and great for the waistline. The makers say that Hopper is truly the perfect summer refresher. Not only is it deliciously fruity and smooth, but it also leaves you invigorated and hangover-free. One of the main ingredients, hops, is known for its relaxant mood-enhancing qualities, making it the perfect feel-good drink to kick back with during the balmy months of summer. Apparently it was created by a group of drink-lovers who didn’t want to feel deprived by choosing the ‘soft’ option, Hopper became the pioneering answer to this dilemma. They hatched the idea in a pub and brewed their first batch in a kitchen, before developing and refining it over months of experimentation. Finally, they found the perfect combination, creating a mature tasting soft drink with fruity top notes and a soothing beer-like depth. “Like beer, Hopper is best drunk ice cold,” says Neville Portelli, Creator, “most soft drinks on the market are unpleasantly sweet and goody two shoes. We invented what we call a ‘soft-brew’, a refreshing soft drink with enough attitude to be at home in the pub – or with a picnic.” Hoppers are currently available in three flavours: Apple, Citrus and Blackcurrant.

Non-alcoholic, the drink contains beer ingredients, such as hops and malt, as well as fruit resulting in an interesting beery, fruity taste. “Most soft drinks in the market are unpleasantly sweet and goody two shoes’ says CEO Tim Dewey. ‘We realised there was a big gap in the market for a delicious grown up soft drink and so, taking our inspiration from the brewery, we invented our Soft Brew. With health and drink driving so high on the government agenda, it’s about time a sophisticated alternative was available”. Available in three flavours: Apple, Citrus and Blackcurrant.

The Press and Journal – March 2009
Drink This
One of the best bits of my job is getting to try new products before they hit the supermarket shelves. My hot tip for 2009 is Hopper, a range of UK-made ‘Soft Brews’. Hopper is made in a brewery using hops and malt and currently comes in three flavours – Apple, Citrus and Blackcurrant. As a concept, it’s a little hard to get your head around, but trust me, they taste amazing. They have a frothy head, a fruity tang and a crisp, clean finish – but are completely alcohol-free. Nationwide stockists are still being finalised, but you can order on-line at www.Juicebrewery.com. They cost £1.30 each, or £12.99 for a case of 12 online.

Tandoori Magazine – March 2009
Said to be created by a group of drink lovers that don’t want to be deprived by choosing the ‘soft option’, Hopper is described as the first ‘Soft Brew’. These soft drinks are intended to be non-alcoholic alternatives to beer. They are made from hops and malt, traditional beer ingredients, and also have a beer-like frothy head. Visually, the Blackcurrant flavour has a distinct beer-like appearance. Unlike other soft drinks it isn’t fizzy or sweet. It has a nice beer-like, hoppy, aftertaste. The Apple Hopper is obviously aimed at cider drinkers. It has a very nice taste, part way between cider itself and apple juice.

Wedding Magazine – March 2009
Brewed with hops, malt and fruit juice, a Hopper is the ideal alternative to alcohol - with a fruity tang and natural boost from the hops. Complete with frothy head, all-natural ingredients and no alcohol it’s the perfect addition to your wedding reception.

Lifescape Magazine – March 2009
No need to feel left out if you don’t want to drink alcohol. Hopper is luring people who once wouldn’t be seen dead with a soft drink. Lifescape’s editor sampled them and announced (with no bribes I promise): ‘This is the drink any non-drinker has been waiting for, even if they didn’t know it! Its very special taste is neither soft or alcoholic. It’s just unique and makes you feel special to be choosing it. If you really want to know what’ it’s like. I have to say you must order some, as it’s really something completely different. It’s not like a non-alcoholic drink it’s like a completely new range and I await the day when I can order it wherever I go”. This Soft Brew based on hops and malt perfectly fills a gap in the market. Absolutely alcohol free, Hopper comes in Apple, Citrus and Blackcurrant with a frothy head and an adult taste, although kids can drink them! Tim Dewey the CEO wanted something that wasn’t too sweet or goody two shoes – something that is ‘a new way of drinking for society’s new way of thinking’. And for sure it will appeal to men who haven’t previously felt confident with the regular soft drink selection on offer!

Cook Vegetarian – Feb 2009
Love cider but hate the fuzzy after-effects? Then this non-alcoholic apple drink is for you. Part of a new range of soft drinks made in a brewery with a distinct hops flavour (hence the name), this has a rich twist of malt and a tasty apple tang.
